Pole Foundation Size Calculator Excel
INTRODUCTION
Poles foundations are commonly used for sign, flagpole and light pole foundations and pole framed buildings. A design criteria for pole foundations is indicated in Section 1804 and Paragraph 1805.7 of the 2006 International Building Code. This criteria applies to vertical poles considered columns embedded in either earth or in concrete footings in the earth and used to resist lateral loads. The backfill in the annular space around a column that is not embedded in a concrete footing shall be clean sand thoroughly compacted by tamping in layers not exceeding 8 inches in depth.
The excel spreadsheet provides details on calculating the pole foundation size based on IS 802 PART-1 standards. It lists the pole dimensions and weight. It then calculates the total weight, stabilizing moment, wind load factors, overturning moment due to wind, and safety factor. The calculated safety factor of 2.56 is greater than the required safety factor of 2, so the design is approved.
