Voltage drop calculation for Street light – Excel Sheet

Street Light Pole Voltage Drop Calculation

Street Light Pole Voltage Drop Calculation

This Execel presents two methods for calculating voltage drop in road lighting systems: an approximate method and a precise method.

This excel spreadsheet calculates the voltage drop for a street light pole system with 9 poles spaced 50 meters apart. It determines the load per pole is 2.9 amps and calculates the voltage drop for each pole and phase. The maximum voltage drop is 3.22% for the B phase, which is less than the allowable 4% drop. Therefore, the 4CX10 sq.mm cable meets requirements to power the 9 pole street light system.

How to calculate voltage drop?

While the device will provide the reading, you must perform some calculations to determine if the voltage reading is too high or too low. The formula to calculate a voltage drop is: Vd = (1.73 x K x L x I)/Cm.
