DEWA Commissioned 1,530 11 kV distribution substations

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced that it commissioned 1,530 11 kV distribution substations across Dubai in 2024, representing an increase of 8.2% compared to 2023.

The construction and related works of these substations required a total of 1,070,670 man-hours of work, all of which were completed in accordance with the highest standards of health and safety. By the end of 2024, there were 45,317 medium voltage (11 kV and 6.6 kV) substations.

“DEWA has always successfully fulfilled its commitment to making Dubai a model of advanced integrated infrastructure that makes it a great place to live, work and settle. In line with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, we continue to upgrade the transmission and distribution networks based on electricity demand forecasts up to 2030, taking into account the emirate’s population and economic growth. Our adoption of the latest technologies in energy generation, transmission and distribution has placed DEWA at the top of the world in more than 10 key performance indicators (KPIs) in its areas of work. Furthermore, line losses from electricity transmission and distribution networks were reduced to 2.2%, compared to around 6% to 7% in Europe and the US. This has made DEWA a global model for energy efficiency and reliability, and a driving force to keep pace with increased demand,” added HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO.
